The presentation of the 30 coins series will take place in a special session included in the Official Section
Terror, paranormal phenomena and conspiracy in rural Spain are the main ingredients of the long-awaited 30 coins series, directed by Álex de la Iglesia for HBO Europe, which will land at the 53rd Sitges Festival. The screening can be enjoyed in a special screening within the Official Section.
The television series of the acclaimed director of The Day of the Beast, Sad Trumpet Ballad or The Witches of Zugarramurdi, immerses the viewer in a world where nothing is what it seems and no one can be trusted. Its protagonist, Father Vergara, is an exorcist, boxer and ex-convict in exile in a parish in a remote town in Spain. When Vergara is related to a series of paranormal phenomena that occurred in the town, Paco, the naive mayor, and Elena, a restless veterinarian, try to unravel the secrets of their past and the meaning of the ancient coin that Vergara keeps hidden. Little by little, this unusual trio of heroes will find themselves immersed in a global conspiracy: the battle for control of the thirty coins for which the apostle Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus of Nazareth.
30 Coins is co-written by Álex de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría, and includes a high-level cast made up of Eduard Fernández, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Megan Montaner, Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto, Manolo Solo or Carmen Machi. The series is a Pokeepsie Films production for HBO Europe, with the participation of HBO Latin America.
