Harry Melling played Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films, the young man who lived with a famous wizard and made life impossible for him. Of course, he is a character that no fan wants. Since the premiere of the first tapes, the actor changed a lot physically to the point of being unrecognizable. For him, this change was a “blessing”: “I think it was something unconscious when it started to happen (his physical change). I went to acting school when I turned 18 and that's when the weight changed, not because of any necessity, but it just happened. And I've done a lot of things since acting school, a lot of theater. I think one of the blessings of this kind of moment in my life was the fact that I was not recognized. I had that story of being part of the movies, but I also felt like I had a chance to have a new beginning, which I think is useful.
A change that almost took him out of the saga
Due to this great change in weight, the actor was about to be replaced from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Luckily, the team was able to solve it by fitting him with a prosthesis and a suit that maintained the resemblance he had Harry's cousin in the early tapes. "Everybody says it's fun to be bad, and I think there is a lot of truth in that," he commented about the character he played but adds: "I like to think that I'm not a devilish or malicious person in any way."
