Amber Heard runs out of attorneys over Johnny Depp lawsuit

As the defamation lawsuit that Johnny Depp filed against Amber Heard progresses, the actress's defense attorneys stopped representing her.

More trouble for Amber Heard. The legal exchange between the star of Aquaman and her ex-husband Johnny Depp, has taken another strange turn. Since the actress' defense attorneys have dropped out before her next defamation trial.

Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit against Amber Heard in early 2019 for defamation after the actress accused her ex-husband of physically abusing her during their tumultuous 18-month marriage. The coronavirus crisis (COVID-19) had delayed the trial, but a date has recently been set for the resumption. But it will do so without Amber Heard's defense team, which was led by Roberta Kaplan and which also included John Quinn, Julie Fink and Davida Brook.

The two actors, who met during the filming of The rum diaries in 2011, they were married in February 2015. Amber Heard filed for divorce in May 2016. She also obtained a Temporary Restraining Order at the same time, stating that Johnny Depp had been physically and verbally abusive. Depp's lawyers have recently accused Heard of wearing makeup to fake injuries.

However, in December 2018, Amber Heard wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post where he again spoke of Johnny Depp being physically abusive. Depp soon filed a $ 50 million defamation suit against his ex-wife. Because Heard's alleged defamation occurred in the Washington Post, the trial will take place in Virginia instead of California, where the two actors live.

Roberta Kaplan is a prominent Los Angeles attorney who is heavily involved in the Times Up movement, where she established the legal defense fund for that cause.

Amber Heard has signed the change and said she has no problem with the desertion of her lawyers. You will simply use a local Virginia attorney instead of Kaplan Hecker and Fink LL. Some of the reasons Kaplan's firm gave for dropping out of school included that "travel and logistics" became "more expensive in light of the pandemic."

It's also not unreasonable for California attorneys to choose not to get involved in a lawsuit in another state, since Virginia's laws and procedures are presumably different from California's. However, it is clearly a bit surprising to see lawyers withdraw from a lawsuit at such a late date. Johnny Depp's attorneys believe this move by Kaplan and his law firm is curious, as his lead attorney, Adam Waldman (based in Washington, DC) issued the following statement: “Ms. Amber Heard's attorneys, one of whom co-founded the #TimesUp Legal Defense Fund, has now apparently been freed from Ms. Heard's long-contested frauds. We intend to find out why. " | Movies, comics and series
