Criticism of Gretel and Hansel, a film with a failed script but with a photograph that manages to relaunch it

Gretel and Hansel, aged 13 and 9 respectively, live in utter misery due to the sudden death of their father and the marriage of their mother to an infamous person. The lack of resources and the growing fear of the stepfather, forces them to flee the town in search of a better future. During their journey they meet people who want to take advantage of them until they reach a friendly older woman who decides to take them in. What they cannot even imagine is that in that cabin they will have to face their worst fears if they want to survive.

After Amazon Prime Video changed the release date three times, the terrifying new film based on the tales of the Brothers Grimm finally arrives. Without being able to premiere in theaters, the platform releases the film as one of the great motion pictures of the year and it continues to position itself among the best. It is directed by the remarkable Oz Perkins who takes advantage of all the elements that make up the scene to transmit the utmost mistrust to us.

The choice of the actors is very correct; Sophia Lillis despite her little maturity has managed to get along with his character and show us the problems you face. For her part, the interpreter Alice Krige has been able to adapt her well physically and with her great performance she manages to convince in a terrifying way. On the other hand, the young actor Samuel Leakey has failed to adapt to the demands of the script due to his great inexperience and immaturity.

It is technically admirable

The admirable distinction of combining a wide-angle lens with a shallow depth of field to get the viewer to focus their attention at the same time as vertigo and disorientation it is very neat. All this with a powerful staging recorded in large and colorful mountains where it captures a climate of humidity and solitude. The contrast of the lights with these elements draws a lot of attention for how millimetric it can be when causing such effects.

The first part of Gretel and Hansel is tiring and heavy but little by little it manages to relaunch up to a medium level. What will really captivate and keep the viewer in suspense is the rest of the elements that make up the film with some wonderful shots. The final combination will suffice to establish it as one of the most notable horror films on Amazon Prime Video.
