Criticism of The double plus fifteen: a tender drama

The double plus fifteen was released just before the quarantine, directed by Mikel Rueda. Starring Maribel Verdú and Germán Alcarazu.

The story of two people, Ana and Eric, who cannot find their place and have no idea what to do with the rest of their lives. Two ways of seeing life, two different moments in life, two different ages.

The double plus fifteen begins with the meeting of a woman who has exceeded 45 and a young minor,

who have run into a sexual chat and they wanted to see each other in real life; the normal thing would be for both to put an end, but between them something begins to emerge, a love-friendship story that seeks to express itself in a natural way that, although a little forced, is reflected in a tender way. Mikel Rueda prefers to focus on the development of these two characters dissatisfied with life. Much of the film focuses on the dialogues between the two that express their personalities, some banal and others full of depth, are the most powerful of the tape together with the performances.

A weak point of The double plus fifteen is the beginning,

where that meeting seems somewhat forced and that connection arises in an unusual and unnatural way, but from there, the film runs smoothly and delicately. It soon becomes clear to us that this meeting between the two will be a turning point in their lives. Both break the stereotypes and roles that correspond to them in their respective generation and feel out of place in their respective lives., this being a very interesting and well reflected premise. The script it's solid, but with topics, such as the fact that they could not choose separate rooms in the hotel, since it is something expected and it is not credible.

The actors are sublime,

Maribel Verdú achieves a compelling role, who is deranged with what has been his life; on the other hand we have Germán Alcarazu, what is the surprise of the movie, a young actor who conveys the sadness of his character, as well as innocence and melancholy, in which many of us can feel identified. He transmits kindness, kindness and becomes tender and tender. Outstanding performance. The photography and lighting are great, serve as a narrative resource, in which depending on the moment we will have warmer or colder colors; as well as intentional blurring, reflecting that the two of them are alone in the world around them.

The double plus fifteen is a tender drama, with a different idea and a beautiful execution, despite some implausible point, manages to entertain and be a great movie.
