Criticism of The Way Back: predictable motivation

The Way Back comes to the Spanish card, directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Ben Affleck.

A former basketball star fallen from grace and plunged into the terrible world of addictions tries to get back on the right track as the coach of a high school team whose greatest peculiarity is to be made up of a diverse group of students.

The Way Back presents Affleck playing himself,

A depressed alcoholic, not just anyone could take on this challenge, only available to a few like Affleck. His character embodies desolation, sadness, and despondency. All this in a slow start, in which O’Connor he takes his time to draw us to the character of Affleck. We have a protagonist downhill with a decline with which the director takes his time. But perhaps it is the only powerful thing in the film, the performance of Ben Affleck.

The Way Back is the typical story of a losing team that seeks to win based on phrases and motivational speeches,

so full of words and so empty of meaning. All this with a devastated coach, but who believes in them blindly. The argument is not very original. Everything is wrapped in a americanized atmosphere butt, the atmosphere of the sport, the cheerleaders, the flags everywhere, the competitiveness that borders on the absurd … It can be any movie with the same plotregardless of the sport, be it basketball, soccer or athletics.

The script is predictable,

for example, the protagonist leaves alcohol overnight, it's that easy, go. And in the end, we all know what will happen to the Affleck team. It's an entertaining movie, that's true, but it will be forgotten soon. The good thing is that the team is in the background, focusing more on the character of Affleck, who is the one who holds the film. But otherwise it does not bring anything new.
