Inspired by its famous theme park attraction, Disney will make a new Haunted Mansion movie with screenwriter Katie Dippold.
In 2003 they already made a movie of The Haunted Mansion, on that occasion was starring Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason and Jennifer Tilly. The idea was to replicate the success of Pirates of the CaribbeanBut they only grossed $ 182 million worldwide. Now at Disney they believe it is time to give it a new try and will make an updated version.
Disney has hired the screenwriter Katie dippold to make the story of The Haunted Mansion. In his filmography we find films like Ghostbusters from 2016, Uncontrolled (2017) and Special bodies (2013). Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce under their Rideback banner. This production company was also responsible for the live action remake of Aladdin Disney, which was run by Guy ritchie.
Remember that the director Guillermo del Toro he participated in a reboot in 2010, even going so far as to co-write the script before the project was dropped. An animated version was intended to air on the Disney XD channel, but it also ended up being canceled.
What is the original movie about?
The Haunted Mansion is starring Jim Evers (Eddie Murphy), a workaholic real estate agent who travels with his family to a terrifying house with the intention of doing business with her. But in that damn place there are 999 ghosts who are not willing to touch the house. While trying to get rid of the spirits, Jim discovers how much his family needs him.
Hopefully soon they will confirm to the director that it will be in charge and thus we will know what the tone will be that they want for the new version of The Haunted Mansion. But considering that it is from Disney it will surely be family entertainment rather than pure horror.
