Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Karen Gillan wants Nebula to rebuild her life

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Karen Gillan reveals she's waiting for Nebula to rebuild her life after Thanos' death

Actress Karen Gillan has revealed that she is hopeful that her character Nebula will rebuild her life in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gillan debuted as Thanos' adoptive daughter Nebula in the first movie. Guardians of the Galaxy. Then it appeared in its sequel, as well as in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Both Nebula and her adoptive sister, Gamora, play a key role in the Infinity saga, as they often affect Thanos' actions. Gamora and Nebula have an antagonistic relationship in much of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, thanks to the cruel way Thanos confronts them. However, at the end of the second installment, the two have formed an awkward bond.

Gillan confirmed to return as Nebula for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which has no release date yet, and key aspects of the film remain unknown. However, part of the story probably centers on Nebula rebuilding her relationship with Gamora. This is because the current version of the character was killed by Thanos, leaving Gamora behind, who has not yet joined the Guardians. A popular fan theory says that Mantis could use her powers to restore memories of the ancient Gamora in its younger version but has been debunked by director James Gunn. Regardless, there will be an interesting role change in for Gamora and Nebula, as Nebula became an official member of the Guardians of the Galaxy team at the end of Avengers: Endgame, while Gamora's whereabouts remain unknown.

Gillan has now revealed a part of Nebula's story in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that she is eager to explore. While speaking on a virtual panel for GalaxyCon Live, Gillan spoke of Nebula's journey so far, highlighting the abuse Thanos suffered: “She is someone who has dealt with abuse from her father from an early age… In Avengers, he had to face the source of his abuse and then really see him be removed from his life. " Later, Gillan shared that she is anxious “to see the future Nebula in the sense of what it will be like now that that source of abuse has disappeared from her life, how she is going to recover… I am interested in maybe trying to take her to a place where she begins to rebuild your life. "

Gillan highlighted how much Nebula's life will have changed following Thanos' death. Since he survived his snapshot at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, he's technically already spent five years without it, though Marvel fans didn't see much of that time on screen. Also, although the current Thanos was beheaded by Thor at the start of Avengers: Endgame, Nebula faced Thanos from 2014 again, triggering old wounds. As he will deal with that, in addition to the previous version of Gamora, it makes sense that Nebula needs to rebuild her life in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3]

It will be interesting to see exactly what role Nebula plays in the movie, with much of the story unknown at the moment. It is possible that the events of Thor: Love and Thunder provide some clarity, as some members of the Guardians may appear in that movie. However, if that is not seen, fans can see how Nebula's journey continues in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
