The sequels to Avatar have been a long time coming, and while Disney recently decided to push them back a year, director James Cameron has now confirmed that Avatar 2 is done, and Avatar 3 has it almost ready.
The Avatar sequels were forced to halt production due to COVID-19, but thanks to the way New Zealand managed to get the virus under control, it hasn't been long before filming could resume.

In a video call ahead of the 2020 Austria World Summit environmental conference, director James Cameron spoke with Arnold Schwarzenegger (via The Independent) and confirmed that Avatar 2 is not only finished, but Avatar 3 has no left. much to finish it. The sequels were shot one after another, but it's still surprising to hear that the movies are so far along.
"COVID hit us like everyone else," explained the filmmaker. “We lost around four and a half months of production. As a result of that, we've racked up one more year for a December 2022 release. That has already been announced. That doesn't mean I have a year to finish the movie, because the day we deliver Avatar 2 we will start working on finishing Avatar 3. "

"Where are we now?" Cameron continued. “I am in New Zealand filming. We are filming the rest of the action live. We have about 10% left. We are 100% complete on Avatar 2, and we are about 95% complete on Avatar 3 ”.
The long-awaited sci-fi sequel is slated for a December 2022 release, and Disney clearly hopes, like all of us, that the pandemic is gone by then. There are plans for a fourth and fifth installment, but it's hard to believe the studio is going ahead with them until we see how at least one of these sequels works.
