The Batman cinematographer Greig Fraser discusses how the tone in the upcoming DC Comics movie compares to the Dark Knight trilogy.
The Batman It is one of the 2021 films that are generating the most interest. The actor Robert Pattinson will reset the character that was last played by Ben Affleck. Although this version of the director Matt Reeves is being compared more to the Dark Knight of Christopher Nolan interpreted by Christian bale. Currently filming is on pause due to the Coronavirus, but we have already been able to see images of the suit or the batmobil.
Each director and cinematographer has established a different aspect of the hero of DC Comicseven Wally Pfister in Batman Begins (2005) and The dark knight (2008) earned several Academy Award nominations. Larry Fong was the director of photography for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), where he participated in the presentation of Ben Affleck's version as the cape crusader. However, in the League of Justice (2017), Fabian Wagner was in charge of the photography.
Greig Fraser recently spoke in an interview about his work on the new DC Comics movie.
When asked how darkness in The Batman movie compares to the Dark Knight trilogy and Zack Snyder movies, Greig Fraser he explained:
“There is darkness in the certain character. We need to create a state of mind, which is obvious. It is a Batman movie. So I don't think it's going to be oppressively dark visually. Because we are not trying to compete on who can be the darkest of the darkest. We are trying to create intrigue ”
It is clear that Reeves and Fraser intend to create their own version with the movie The Batman and are not obsessed with what was done in the past. His comments are also a good reminder of the importance of cinematography in superhero movies, especially in the Dark Knight movies. The character evokes a very specific state of mind that must be transferred to the big screen.
The Batman will premiere on October 1, 2021.
