Expediente Warren 2: El director contó curiosidades sobre la película

As we look forward to the premiere of the third film, James Wan revealed some secrets and trivia about the Warren File 2.

While we wait for the team to move forward with File Warren 3, which suffered the consequences of the pandemic, James Wan took the time to reveal some secrets about File Warren 2. On this occasion, the director said that Valak was not the first demon in the he thought to scare the onlookers. Before La Monja, the co-writer of this story had other plans on his mind and made them known.

Through social media, James Wan revealed that, for this second story, he decided to focus much more on character storytelling over anything else. “This is my first design of the demonic entity that haunts the family and Lorraine. Aaron Sims (concept designer) and I were inspired by our design of Dracula for a movie I was linked to a long time ago called Castlevania, ”explained the director after posting a creepy image about the possible demon from The Warren File 2.

“Justin Raleigh / Fractured FX built an amazing animatronic suit, and we were going to power it with computer-made wings. But alas, during editing, I found this beautifully designed / sculpted horned demon to be too weird for the movie. We needed something more ingrained and personal, something that would take Lorraine's faith and try to test / corrupt it. I remembered the real-life Lorraine Warren talking about her love and reverence for her nun friends, and the lightbulb went on, thus the Demon Nun was born. So we went back and replaced the horned demon with the nun during the additional photography. "

CONJURING 2 is one of my personal fav. I focused on character-storytelling above anything else. Here’s my first design of the demonic entity haunting the family and Lorraine. Aaron Sims (concept designer) and myself took inspiration from our Dracula design for a movie I was attached to a long time ago called Castlevania. @ justin.raleigh / Fractured FX built an awesome animatronic suit, and we were going to augment it with CGI wings. But alas, during editing, I deemed this beautifully designed / sculpted horned demon too out of left-field for the film. It needed to be more grounded and personal – something that would take Lorraine’s faith and try to test / corrupt it. I remember the real-life Lorraine Warren talking about her love and reverence for her nun friends, and a lightbulb went off – thus… the Demon Nun was born. So we went back and replaced all the Horned Demon with the Nun during additional photography. I call the last image “Beauty and the Beast”. #Halloweenretrospect

A well thought out change

And although The Nun was not designed from the beginning for Warren File 2, the truth is that it ended up being an iconic character within the franchise. Quickly, he became an icon of horror within the cinema, so much so that he later had his own spin-off.

All this happened thanks to the originality of James Wan and his team, who decided to transform an entity that in mythology had never been represented as a nun before. Putting this mask on Valak was the best decision they could have made for The Warren File 2.
